Loraine Leeson at The World Transformed 2017

On 24th September Loraine Leeson, chair of Arts for Labour, will be introducing a discussion on cultural democracy at The World Transformed, the Momentum fringe event to the Labour Party conference, being held in Brighton 23rd-26th September 2017.

This will be by way of a re-launch of Arts for Labour, founded in the 1980s out of the success of the GLC’s radical arts strategy. This saw art and culture as important aspects of people’s lives, not just in terms of access to excellence, but rather creativity as a means of empowerment for all. Thirty years later its time has come again with the re-formed Labour Party’s commitment to “the many, not the few” and to “restore arts to the heart of government policy making”.

The event is planned as the beginning of a process that will elicit the views of creative practitioners around the country to inform Labour arts policy.
