Gavin Fernandes co-ordinates multi-discipline roles as photographer, fashion stylist, art director, curator and academic. His research encompasses complex and provocative, socio-political discussion around the themes of cultural identity, religion, feminine empowerment and gender.
Gavin has exhibited in London at the Victoria and Albert Museum; Royal Academy of Arts; Whitechapel Art Gallery; The Photographers’ Gallery; Institute of Contemporary Arts, National Maritime Museum, Museum of London and Harris Museum, Preston. His images have been featured in international books and academic journals, with a portfolio of images featured as a dedicated chapter in the recent title 'British Asian Style: Fashion and Textiles / Past and Present' by V&A Publishing.
Gavin was selected for 'freshfacedandwildeyed08', a group show at The Photographers’ Gallery London, 2008, and recently received a commission from the gallery to contribute a portrait to the 2012 World In London project.
His styling and photographic narratives 'Monarchs Of The East End' and 'Empire Line' were presented as solo-exhibitions at Maison Des Arts de Creteil, Paris, 2007, Rich Mix Cultural Foundation, London, 2007 and Maison Folie, Wazemmes, Lille, 2006.
In October 2011, Fernandes co-ordinated a styling and photography ‘live event’ for 'Traders Unpacked' at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London.
