Cross - Institutional Project with London College of Fashion.
I am currently engaged in a cross-institutional project with the knit department at LCF working with the Stoll Industrial Knit Technician and the Technical Staff on a range of Original / Repeatable Knitted fabrics for Industry and Fashion. We have submitted an Abstraction for consideration to present as a Paper on this project together with the collection, in progress. The paper would be presented to a Conference in Huddersfield University on Nov 26th and 27th 2014. This is called Transition: Re - thinking Textiles and Surfaces.
I have recently been awarded funding through the Erasmus Mobility scheme to visit the University of Art and Design, Cluj Napoca, Romania to investigate Transylvanian Embroidery . I am developing links and contacts with and within the host Institution and country of visit. I have made contact with local makers, largely female craft workers. I am interested in the complex motifs that appear to stem from Ukraine, Byzantine and Germanic routes and want to track their progress along various trade routes. I would like to set up a base for future further Research and Networking. It would be good to set up Cross - Cultural and Cross - Institutional Projects. A Fairtrade / Co-operative ethic or approach to working with indigenous makers regarding collaborative business proposals would be adhered to. This is an ongoing project.
